Apparently officials for the Northern California side of the State volleyball playoffs decided to look past enrollment this fall and go with equity type placement for divisions.
Why?
Well because it's what Southern California does.
Yet, this decision came with little or no warning. And all it has done is create confusion and a little frustration.
As a result you've got Division V type programs like Santa Catalina in Division III and Central Coast Section Division I runner-up Los Gatos in Division III.
Frankly I've never been a fan of six divisions for the postseason. It's diluted the section playoffs for several sections across California.
But if you're going to go the equity route rather than enrollment, you have to do it when the playoffs start up for each section.
Not just for the teams that advance to the State Northern California playoffs.
It's a mess. Sure it's given some teams hope. Others, however, are wondering what could have been.
