Friday's game
Seaside (5-4) at Monte Vista (4-5), 7:30 p.m.
There's no guarantee that the winner will have enough points to make the Open Division III playoffs. But a loss will ensure uniforms being turned in on Monday.
Essentially this is a playoff game for the Mustangs and Seaside, who are tied for fifth in the Gabilan Division at 2-4.
Only four teams from the Gabilan Division are automatic locks into the CCS playoffs. But at least five teams have qualified over the last five years.
Seaside's second half struggles continue as it failed to hold a nine-point lead in a loss to Palma last week. Three weeks ago it couldn't hold an 11-point lead in a setback to San Benito.
DeMarcus Hawkins should be the Gabilan Division MVP for what he's doing on both sides of the ball for the Spartans, having rushed for nearly 1,300 yards while scoring 19 touchdowns.
Hawkins, who has received interest from at least three Division I programs, also has eight sacks on defense and a team leading 90 tackles.
Monte Vista has dropped three straight and four out of its last five games. Quarterback Sean White has thrown for over 2,100 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Seaside's strength is its pass rush and secondary, where Daniel Sayre has returned seven pick six's in the last two years.

Seaside sits with 20 points while MVC has 18. A Seaside win will give them 22 points and an at-large berth. A MVC win will put both teams on the bubble at 20 with MVC having a tiebreaker over Seaside. So if it is only the two of them on the bubble then MVC would be in. But there might be others on the bubble with 20 such as Bellarmine, Leigh and Burlingame. When there are more than two teams on the bubble a drawing is used to choose the team or teams that make the play-offs. Not sure if Seaside would be included in the drawing since MVC has a tiebreaker over Seaside.
