Santa Catalina volleyball

No one celebrates a season ending loss.
Yet, over time a celebration for the Cougars is warranted.
Not just for this years remarkable run that came up short in the State Northern California Division III semifinals. But for what this program has achieved over the last two years.
Simply put, we may never see back-to-back undefeated regular seasons, capped with Central Coast Section Division V titles again. I mean, it had never happened before.
Santa Catalina went 54-2 over the last two years, with both setbacks coming in the State Divisional tournament -- one in Division V and the other in Division III.
The Cougars opened both seasons 27-0. They were 50-0 against teams in the CCS, and rattled off a county record 18 straight sweeps this past fall.
Four players have played together for three years, helping build the chemistry and cohesiveness that it takes to make magical runs.
Three of them are departing in two-time league Most Valuable Player McKinley Fox, Olivia Satow and Saige Madden, along with seniors Emma Roffler and Jenna Mann.
The cupboard is far from bare. Santa Catalina will still be a league and section contender next fall. But what this group achieved over the last two years are memories of a lifetime.
