Salinas football

 Trust in Zenk.
It's on hand waving towels, posters 20 feet long. It's been the battle cry players for Salinas installed just before the Salinas City Jamboree 12 weeks ago in support of head coach Steve Zenk.
You might want to print some more of those towels.
The Cowboys won the Gabilan Division title and posted the programs first undefeated league season since 2002.
Of course, that was a five-game league season. This was seven with three reigning league champions lumped into the same division this year.
Salinas will ride into the playoffs with a seven game winning streak. It will likely be seeded No. 2 in the CCS Open Division I playoffs, meaning potentially two home games.
It could see a rematch down the road with Milpitas -- that last team to beat them back in September.
This isn't a team that puts an emphasis on one player - rather all 22 starters have had significant roles in this title run.
The numbers aren't eye-popping for one individual, although quarterback Brett Reade is attempting to throw and rush for 1,000 yards.
It's a committee approach, as evident by three different players rushing for touchdowns in a 31-21 title clinching win over Aptos last week.
What makes Salinas dangerous is who do you stop? The numbers are so balanced. And that defense is filthy with 24 sacks and 10 picks.
Make no mistake. The Open Division I will be stacked with representation from the West Catholic Athletic League as well.
All year Zenk has told his team to enjoy the ride. No need to stop now.
