Palma coach Jeff Carnazzo couldn't have scripted it any better -- accept for the end result.
Points are a part of the process and the Chieftains failed on two occasions in the red zone score and another inside Terra Nova territory to score -- period.
Ultimately, it took the life right out of Palma in a 45-20 season ending setback. Execution failed the Chieftains in the red zone.
"Yep," agreed Carnazzo.
It happens when you're a youthful group that spent most of the season learning on the fly, forced into playoff mood five weeks ago after a 2-4 start.
"We've come a long ways,'' Carnazzo said.
Three of the Chieftains five losses this fall are to teams that will be playing in the section divisional finals next week. A team it beat is also still alive.
It wasn't a soft schedule. It never is. Still this was not your typical Palma team. It was a rebuild this season -- one that had eulogies being posted six weeks into the year.
I told you to hold off on those.
I don't think there is any question this was Carnazzo's best job as a head coach. Those four CCS titles were talented teams. Making a 33rd straight playoff appearance was work.
Bigger rewards are coming in the future The core is coming back with an understanding of what lies ahead. The teaching aspect will be more defined. The chase of supremacy never stops.
