Central Coast Section Division V finals
Friday's match
No. 2 Mt. Madonna, Watsonville (16-10) vs No. 1 Santa Catalina (24-0) at Watsonville High, 7 p.m.
The defending Division V champions Cougars had little trouble in getting back to the finals, with a pair of sweeps.
Then again Santa Catalina has swept 22 of 24 opponents this year in earning a No. 2 ranking in the state in Division V.
Mt. Madonna finished fifth in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League. But in the postseason, it has swept its two opponents, including league rival St. Francis of Watsonville.
Sophomore Paola Jacobs has lead a balanced attack at the net for the Hawks, whose coach was part of the teams state title run in 2007.
Santa Catalina has rattled off 48 straight wins against teams in the CCS over the last two years, with basically the same core of players.
McKinley Fox has lead a balanced attack at the net for the Cougars that includes Maria Santos, Saige Madden and Alicia Rector.
Olivia Satow has been a rock in the back row for four years, having compiled over 1,000 digs for the Cougars.
Santa Catalina has swept 15 straight opponents and hasn't played a match that has lasted more than 90 minutes in nearly two months.
No program in Monterey County has ever put together an undefeated regular season and a CCS title once, let alone back-to-back years.
