Los Gatos-Salinas football

Central Coast Section Open Division I Semifinals
Friday's game
No. 6 Los Gatos (6-5) at No. 2 Salinas (9-2), 7 p.m.
The Wildcats have won three straight and are 5-1 since falling to Milpitas, ironically the last team to beat Salinas, who is riding an eight-game winning streak.
Quarterback Robert Nelson has thrown for nearly 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns this season for Los Gatos, having tossed touchdown passes to eight different receivers.
Los Gatos has also rushed for nearly 2,500 yards as a team with Will Fordyce chalking up 801 yards and a team leading nine touchdowns.
The Cowboys eight game winning streak included a win over San Benito, a team Los Gatos fell to by a point back in September.
Brett Reade needs 10 rushing yards to become the first quarterback at Salinas to compile over 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 passing yards in the same season.
The senior signal caller has either thrown or rushed for 22 touchdowns this fall, with seven scoring tosses going to Jeff Weimer.
The preference for Salinas, though, is to grind and wear down defenses with Ritchie Cerda and Mike Cortez taking turns running behind a punishing offensive line.
The pair have over 1,000 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns this season
Salinas posses arguably the best pass rushing combination in the CCS in Cal bound baseball standout Nathan Martorella and Noah Habes, who have combined for 15 sacks.
The Cowboys secondary has 11 picks this year, with Drew Schuler's interception sealing the opening round playoff win over Palo Alto.
Los Gatos has been prone to turn the ball over with 17. It's fumbled the ball 16 times this year, but has only lost four.
