JD...I know you know this, but let's not forget the big deal when it comes to "JV" programs.

Generally larger schools field both Freshman and JV teams. The larger school JV teams are fundamentally all sophomores...with one year of experience already under their belt. (And that year of experience does makes a difference. Especially early in the season.)

Small schools usually do not have a Freshman team. Furthermore, small schools are more likely to have their best sophomores up on the varsity roster. Therefore small school JV teams are often 75% freshmen.

And as far as I am concerned this is another reason "equity" leagues do not make sense. When you mix small schools in with big, the small school's JV teams get hammered. Should this continue over a several year period, then middle schoolers (AND THEIR PARENTS) start to ask themselves..."why do I want to go out for JV football when I'll be playing against all-sophomore teams and lose?" When that starts to happen, participation in the small school program goes down and small schools are less able to compete.

Frosh records are a better indicator. Been tracking over 30 years and its very accurate for most programs. Some like Hollister improve some but jv not as good as frosh. Even works for wcal. You get two strong frosh classes record wise and almost perfect with few exceptions.
