Friday's game
Carmel (5-4) at Pacific Grove (1-7), 7:30 p.m.
Remember 2009?
This isn't as much about the 'Shoe' as it is survival for the Breakers, who are simply out-manned this year.
It's been a reclamation project for Pacific Grove, who has not produced a point in its last two games, and has scored just 54 points all season.
By comparison, Carmel put up 59 points in last week's win over King City.
Because the Padres aren't a lock for an 11th straight playoff appearance, this could be the last game for their seniors.
That being said, it's still the battle for "The Shoe', where Carmel holds a 34-33-2 series led, with the Padres having won the last two meetings.
Sophomore Dakota Mornhinweg has been a difference maker since his return for Carmel, with nine touchdowns in three games, to go along with three interceptions.
Rashaan Ward has 35 catches -- 10 of which have gone for touchdowns. Kai Lee has thrown for over 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns.
If Pacific Grove can establish some sort of run game and milk the clock, it can keep the score down. But last week the Padres held King City to 18 rushing yards.
Anchored by Robert Brown and Zach DeZee, Carmel's first unit defense has not allowed a point in its last two games.
