Bruce Dini

Monte Vista's decision to relieve Bruce Dini of his duties as the head football coach after just one year is -- well odd.
Remember, Dini wasn't hired until mid-June. He didn't have a spring to put his offense into motion, and found himself in a rebuilding mood in arguably one of the strongest leagues in the section.
You can make the argument that the Mustangs overachieved, winning four games. Apparently those in charge didn't feel the same.
Granted the Mustangs dropped their last four league games of the season to miss the postseason for the first time since 2013.
And the games weren't close, falling by 23, 26, 20 and 27 points. But those four teams are all in the postseason. All six of Monte Vista's losses are to teams in the playoffs.
I don't know if one year is a fair evaluation for a coach trying to implement his system. Perhaps that is where the problem lies. People wanted things to remain the same.
Obviously Dini impressed a panel during his interview to get the job. This decision, though, clearly caught him and others by surprise. I'm sure he'll resurface as a coach if he chooses.
