 The only undefeated team left in the southern section has beaten two defending champions and two other programs likely ticketed to the postseason this year.
 Joseph Barnes is following up on his 1,500 plus yard, 22 touchdown rushing season last fall with nearly 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns in six games for Gilroy.
 He also has three receiving touchdowns this fall, compiling a team leading 150 receiving yards out of the backfield.
 The third quarter has been a monster 12 minutes for the Mustangs, having outscored the opposition 79-8.
 With the core of this year's team coming back next fall, Monterey is building towards the future. The base is now in place.
 What the Toreadores haven't done in three years is beat a team with a winning record. It will get two chances in the final two weeks against two playoff bound programs -- both at home.
