Saturday's games
Monterey Peninsula (0-2) at San Jose City (1-1), 7 p.m.
The Jaguars are not a team with a lot of offensive fire power, averaging just 10.5 points through their first two games.
Both of MPC's setbacks to start the year are to teams that are undefeated. Last year the Lobos beat San Jose 33-20.
An Achilles heel for San Jose is that it has coughed up the football nine times in two games. MPC has turned the ball over eight times and is minus four in turnover ratio.
Quarterback Anthony McBride has thrown for 363 yards and two touchdowns for San Jose, who is averaging just two yards each time it touches the ball on the ground.
The Lobos are mustering just 1.7 yards on the ground, with San Benito grad Hunter Nye leading the team in rushing with 73 yards. He also has a touchdown catch out of the backfield.
Quarterback Hunter Raquet has thrown for 383 yards and three touchdowns for MPC -- with Matteo D'Alfonso having caught a team high 14 passes and Michael Armstead eight.
Sophomore Akili Jones is on pace for over 1,000 yards on kickoff returns, as he is fifth in the state with 244 yards and a touchdown.
The Lobos defense has not registered a sack yet. Freshman linebacker Derrek Meek is second on the team in tackles with 15 and has an interception.
Former Seaside standout Troy Loper has a pick and a fumble recovery for MPC.
