MPC-Gavilan football

Saturday's game
Monterey Peninsula (1-2) at Gavilan (0-3) at Gilroy High, 1 p.m.
The Rams have been involved in three straight one possession games, having lost all three games by a total of 16 points.
While the offense is averaging just 13.8 points a game, Gavilan's defense has created 11 turnovers and is plus four in turnover ratio.
Quarterback Erik Ornduff has thrown for 450 yards and four touchdowns for Gavilan, who has yet to rush for a touchdown this fall, despite averaging 4.5 yards per rush.
Whether it was a change in offensive philosophy or not, MPC is coming off its best rushing effort in four years as a team, piling up 230 yards on the ground.
San Benito graduate Hunter Nye rushed for 149 yards for the Lobos, scoring three touchdowns while quarterback Hunter Raquet accounted for 175 passing and rushing yards and two touchdowns.
For the first time all fall, the Lobos were on the plus side in turnover ratio, creating four, with Denzel Hayes intercepting two passes.
Seaside product Troy Loper has been a ballhawk on defense for MPC, having recovered two fumbles and intercepting a pass in three games.
What MPC has not been able to sustain is a pass rush. It does not have a sack in three games. Akili Jones still leads the Lobos in all purpose yards with 309 -- 244 coming on kickoff returns.
