King City-Seaside football

Friday's game
King City (0-1) at Seaside (2-0), 7:30 p.m.
As disappointing as it was to learn that quarterback Tommy Stephens is out for the year with a torn ACL and MCL, the season isn't over for the Mustangs.
King City found out that it can still compete after spotting Monte Vista 17 points in the first half two weeks ago, playing evenly with them in the second half of a 37-20 season opening loss.
Guarding against a letdown is a concern for Seaside coach Al Avila, as the adrenaline never runs as high after an emotional battle with rival Monterey.
To add to Avila's worries is it's homecoming at Seaside.
The Mustangs concerns are slowing down DeMarcus Hawkins, who has scored four touchdowns in each of Seaside's first two games, having rushed for nearly 380 yards.
Quarterback Ivan Ochoa has yet to throw a pick in 29 attempts for the Spartans, having thrown for 351 yards and three touchdowns.
Look for King City to move Clay Barbree all over the field. In their opener, he even lined up behind center, scoring a touchdown, and caught four passes for 60 yards.
Hawkins is a demon on defense as a pass rusher. He forces opponents into bad decisions. The result has seen the Spartans intercept four passes this year.
