The Mustangs are coming off their eighth straight season opening win. In the past, that has translated to seven winning seasons and five postseason appearances.
Owners of nine straight non-league wins, Monte Vista is 25-3 over the last eight years prior to the start of league play. The Condors, meanwhile, have dropped 10 straight non-league games.
The offensive struggles that have plagued North County the last two seasons continued after being shutout in its season opener by Alvarez.
Dating back to 2015, the Condors have managed just 108 points in 15 losses, but have produced 159 points in six wins.
Monte Vista jumped out early in its opener against King City last week, building a 24-0 lead behind Sean White, who tossed a pair of first half touchdowns.
The Condors have to avoid giving up big plays -- four touchdowns of 30 yards or longer last week -- and slow the tempo of Monte Vista's attack.
