Marina football

As for season openers, this was the biggest win in Marina history.
In part because the Mariners had never won a season opener in seven previous seasons.
Yet, it was more than that. This was a major moral boast for a program trying to stay afloat, having been forced to drop its junior varsity program two weeks ago because of a lack of numbers.
In turn, seven freshmen choose not to play varsity football.
One way to give the program attention is -- well win. Now you have at least got the campus talking about you.
That happened just once last year.
The Mariners have enough talent to compete in the Mission Trail Athletic League's Coastal Division.
The issue is depth, as a roster of 26 finished the game with 23 because of injuries - one of the injuries being potentially season ending.
Players forced to go both ways creates fatigue.
Still a hurdle has been cleared. No doubt, the barriers get bigger as the season progresses. But there is a reason to look forward to practice Monday
