Eight graduating prep senior athletes were granted scholarships by the Gen Giammanco Foundation.
Among those honored included Palma product Anthony DeSantis, who will play baseball this spring at the University of Kansas, and Evelin Meza, who will run cross country this fall at San Jose State.
Also awarded scholarships were Jonathan Chagnon and Isabelle Mandon of Salinas High, Alexandra Garcia and Amanda Torrez of North County, three-time state meet wrestler Jenny Garcia of Notre Dame, and Hannah Renner-Bennett of Pacific Grove.
In addition, renewed scholarships went to one-time Seaside volleyball standout Anela Visesio, who will begin her third year at CSU-Monterey Bay as a middle blocker.
Also renewed were Trinity product Paul Cieri (Albright College); Notre Dame grad Nikki DeSerpa (Marist); Salinas alum Megan Mayfield (Concordia College); Alisal’s Brittany Perez (Hartnell), and Salinas’ Erin Reineking (Santa Clara).
The amount granted and renewed by the Giammanco Foundation to student athletes and local athletic programs for the 2016-17 school year totals $34,000. The foundation was established in 2010 in honor of Genevieve Giammanco.
