Friday's games
All games start at 7:30 p.m.
Willow Glen vs. Carmel at MPC: The Padres have had a lot of success in breaking in sophomore quarterbacks over the last 12 years.
Seaside at Soledad: The visiting team has won the last two meetings. Both teams are coming off 10 wins seasons, with the Aztecs winning a CCS Division IV title.
Mountain View at Monterey: Redemption may be on the minds of the Toreadores, who gave up a season high 56 points in a season opening loss last year at Mountain View.
Watsonville at Pacific Grove: These teams combined for 88 points in last year's season opener. For a program that traditionally runs the ball, the Wildcatz aired it out in last weeks jamboree.
North County at Alvarez: Michael Ramirez is one of the top two-way players in the county for the Eagles. Both teams closed last season with two-game losing streaks.
King City at Monte Vista: Both nicknamed the Mustangs, quarterback Tommy Stephens will not play for King City because of a knee injury. King City has dropped seven straight season openers.
Live Oak at Alisal: The Trojans may not see a better aerial assault than Live Oak's, as quarterback Jonathan Singleton threw for nearly 2,500 yards and 22 touchdowns last fall.
Fremont at Gonzales: The Art Berlanga era begins for the Spartans, who some believe will be the favorites in the MTAL's Coastal Division.
Piedmont Hills vs. North Salinas at Rabobank: The Vikings need a pass rush against a Piedmont Hills squad that has averaged nearly 3,000 passing yards a season the last four years.
Saturday's game
Lynbrook vs. Marina at MPC, 4 p.m.: Lynbrook jumped out to a 3-0 start last year. Marina has never won a season opener. But six of its eight wins have come at MPC.
