Alisal (0-1) at Alvarez (1-0), 7:30 p.m.
The Eagles couldn't have asked for a better start in a 40-point win, while Alisal didn't get untrack until it was staring at a 20-point deficit last week in both teams' season openers.
In the Trojans defense, they faced one of the top quarterbacks in the section in Jonathan Singleton, who tossed three touchdowns and rushed for a pair in Live Oak's 21-point win.
Yet, if Alisal is going to avoid its fifth straight 0-2 start, the defense has to guard against Alvarez's big play potential.
And someone other than Andrew Marquez has got to step up offensively. The Trojans quarterback accounted for 170 of the teams 215 yards, rushing for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
The Eagles showcased a more composed Matt Martinez behind center, as the senior tossed a pair of touchdown passes and darted 60 yards for another last week.
Effectively throwing the ball will keep teams from stacking the box in an attempt to contain tailback Michael Ramirez, who returned an interception 85 yards for a pick six last week.
Alvarez has won the last four meetings between the two teams, outscoring them 49-14 in the second quarter.
Alisal coach Cesar Chaidez and the Eagles Brad Mendes -- both in their second years -- previously coached together at Salinas High
