With four teams finishing the season in a tie for second in the Mission Trail Athletic League, only two can be awarded automatic spots from the league.
No play-in game could be held because four teams were tied at 13-5.
The next tiebreaker came down to head-to-head competition, which went to Soledad, who was 4-2 against King City, Greenfield and Carmel.
Because King City, Greenfield and Carmel were all 3-3, the next tiebreaker came down to head-to-head competition against league champion Pacific Grove.
Greenfield and Carmel split their two games with Pacific Grove. But the Bruins swept Carmel. As a result, they're going to the postseason for the first time as a No. 3 seed out of the MTAL.
King City should still make the postseason as it has 48 points and will get more points following the outcome of today's Alisal-Alvarez Pacific Division title game.
Carmel is in trouble as it only has 38 points. That may not be enough to sneak into the Division II tournament.
