Carmel-Pacific Grove baseball

If the reigning Mission Trail Athletic League champion Padres have any thoughts of defending their league title, the next two games could dictate their fate.
Carmel sits three games behind the unbeaten Breakers with eight games left in the season. A sweep gets them to within a game. Split the series and the Padres will be looking for help.
Since dropping two league games to Greenfield, the Padres have gone 7-1, while Pacific Grove has ignored its 0-8 non-league record by starting the MTAL season with 10 straight wins.
Five sophomores start for the surprising Breakers, including Trevor Hein, who leads the team in hits, and Hunter Hanes, who is 4-0 on the mound in league play.
Christian Stapleton has had a big year for Carmel with six homers, leading the team in nearly every offensive category. Ben Weber has packed a punch with four bombs.
Dylan Houpt has won his last four league starts for Carmel, who is 2-3 in its last five games against the Breakers dating back to 2015.
