State boys wrestling

Central Coast Section champion Matthew Martinez will lead a contingent of county wrestlers to the CIF State wrestling championships.
Martinez is one of three wrestlers from Alvarez that is headed to Bakersfield Friday, having won the CCS title at 182 pounds.
For Martinez, this will be his second state meet appearance, having qualified last year at 170 pounds as a sophomore for the Eagles.
Teammate Riley Siason is making his third state meet appearance in three years, but his first at 113 pounds after placing second at the section finals.
The junior reached the state meet the last two years at 106 pounds. Siason's only loss in the CCS was to one of the top ranked wrestlers in the state in Nicholas Aguilar of Gilroy.
Kevin Ruiz, who just missed a spot in the state meet last year at 195, made amends, finishing third at the section finals to extend his season.
Despite missing most of the season with a concussion, Jose Sanchez landed a spot in the state meet for the second straight year for Gonzales after finishing third in the heavyweight division.
Alisal is sending two wrestlers to the state championships. Jose Quintero will compete at 220 pounds while Cesar Martin earned his first trip at 160 pounds.
