San Benito-Palma baseball

There are few games at the midpoint of the season that get your attention.
This one does.
It's not just a battle of 8-0 teams in the Gabilan Division that will square off.
These are clearly the two best teams in the tri-region area.
The Chieftains and their 13-0 record will host a San Benito squad that has rattled off 10 straight wins since a season opening loss to Valley Christian.
Palma's pitching staff, anchored by Cal bound Sam Stoutenborough, has been filthy through its first 13 games, having allowed four earned runs -- three in one game.
The staff, which posted six straight shutouts at one point, has combined for nine shutouts, including Eziah Cortez's blanking of Monterey on Tuesday.
At the plate, the defending Gabilan Division champion Chieftains come at you with a top-to-bottom lineup that can hit, led by Danny Carnazzo, Dominic Scattini and Cortez.
The Balers have been shutting down teams behind the arms of Davonte Butler and Tyler Triano. At the plate, returning all-leaguers Drew Williams and Diego Fisher are tough outs.
Since giving up 14 runs in that non-league season opening loss, the Balers pitching staff has allowed eight runs during its 10-game winning streak.
Last season San Benito won the first meeting before Palma captured the final two to strip the league title from them.
