Pacific Grove-Santa Catalina softball

Two programs that appear to be hitting their stride at the right time will clash today in a battle for supremacy in the Mission Trail Athletic League.
The Breakers are riding a five-game winning streak while Santa Catalina has rattled off four straight wins, each producing over 20 runs in lopsided wins on Tuesday.
Five years removed from pitching the Cougars to the programs first Central Coast Section Division III title, Alex Pingree is back as the head coach.
While the Cougars have a new cast on the field, Pingree is getting similar results as Abby Gunter has ripped five homers while driving in 19 runs in the teams first eight games.
Gunter is also dealing in the circle, having picked up the teams first two wins in league play. Support at the plate has come from Jessica Clements, who is coming off a five-hit effort.
The Breakers welcomed back Danielle Pasquariello from an injury that cut short her basketball year, as she had five hits, including two homers on Tuesday.
The juniors power only adds to Pacific Grove's potent lineup that includes Samantha Crowley and Diana Hughes.
Two of Pacific Grove's three non-league losses this spring have come from Watsonville and Notre Dame, who are a combined 23-1.
