Matthew Martinez will go into Friday's Central Coast Section wrestling championships seeded No. 1 at 182 pounds for Alvarez,
The junior, who jumped up a weight class after winning the CCS title last year and going to state at 170 pounds, won the Gabilan Division wrestling title two weeks ago.
Teammate Riley Siason is chasing his third straight state meet appearance, this time at 113 pounds for the Eagles.
The CCS runner-up last year at 106 pounds, the junior jumped to 113, where he again is ranked No. 2 in the section.
Kevin Ruiz will also go into the section finals ranked No. 2 for Alvarez at 195 pounds. Last year he just missed a spot in the state meet at 182, finishing fourth at the CCS finals.
Mission Trail Athletic League champion Jose Sanchez of Gonzales will be a sleeper at the section finals at 285, where he is ranked sixth.
Sidelined most of the season with a concussion, Sanchez was sharp at the MTAL finals. Last year he placed third at the CCS finals.
Enrique Zavala will be gunning for a return trip to the state meet for Alisal, but at a much higher weight class this Friday at Independence High in San Jose.
A CCS champion last year at 113 pounds, Zavala moved up to 140, where he will go into the two-day event seeded No. 4.
The Trojans Cesar Martin Del Campo is ranked fifth at 160 pounds while teammate Jose Quintero is seeded No. 5 at 220.
Two-time MTAL champion Foster Smith earned a No. 5 seed at 195 pounds for league co-champion Pacific Grove.
