This is a statement game for the Eagles, who are undefeated this year at 5-0-2.
People forget that Alvarez beat and tied the reigning CCS Division I champion Wildcatz last year.
Or the fact that the Eagles played Mitty -- who shared the CCS Division I title with Watsonville last spring -- to a 1-1 tie on December 23.
Of course, that is the last time Alvarez has a played, a stretch of 13 days.
Will there be any rust?
Watsonville went 22 days between games and opened Gabilan Division play Tuesday with a 1-0 loss to Alisal.
That was the first goal the Wildcatz (5-1) had allowed all season.
Alvarez has allowed just five goals in seven games, while producing 28.
Ricardo Soza and Ivan Gonzalez torched opponents earlier in the season, combining for eight goals and four assists in the teams first three games.
