Nick Cunningham

Former Monterey High track standout and two-time Olympian Nick Cunningham won the North American Cup two-man bobsled title, finishing the season series by capturing gold in the final event in Lake Placid, New York.
"This season started out on such a low note that my confidence was completely gone,’’ said Cunningham. "I started second guessing myself, even asking what I was doing here. When you get bumped down, your mind starts to go wild.’’
Cunningham went to the Winter Olympics as a member of the two-man and four-man bobsled teams in 2010, pushing the bobsled. In 2014, he was a driver in both events for the United States. A strong second half this season catapulted him back into the limelight.
"To come out through adversity, to come out and win overall gold and win gold on the home track gets the confidence up,’’ added Cunningham. "I’m still fighting and I'm not going to give up.’’
Cunningham turned to bobsledding two weeks after completing his track and field career at Boise State as a sprinter in 2009. He reached the CIF state track meet as a senior in the 100 and 200 for the Toreadores.
