King City boys basketball

A 12-game losing streak to open the season would cripple most programs -- particularly one with so much youth and inexperience.
Growing pains were expected for the Mustangs with the loss of all five starters from last seasons 16 win team.
And while that inexperience showed in the first 12 games, King City also showed flashes of turning its season around.
The last two weeks the Mustangs have been a different team, having rattled off four straight wins, none bigger than Thursday's 64-62 decision over co-leading Stevenson.
All of a sudden King City is a team no one in the Mission Trail Athletic League can overlook as it improved to 4-3.
Despite the horrific start, the Mustangs are just two games off the pace in the MTAL as the second half of the league season heats up Monday.
 The difference?
"Players have come alive and others have stepped up,'' King City coach Jesus Ramirez said. "We are getting production on the perimeter and in the paint.''
Ramirez was speaking about Andy Barrios, who knocked down the game winning shot against the Pirates and Ceddy Perez, who had 18 in the win.
But point guard Andres Arellano has gained confidence in running the offense as the season has progressed while Nolan  Johnson is providing a presence in the paint.
While chasing a league title may be a stretch, the Mustangs can contend for a playoff spot out of the MTAL and make some noise before this is all over.
