All that's left in terms of voting is a formality.
We knew this five days ago.
The Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League is disbanding for football.
Meaning every program will become a free agent. Keep in mind this is for football only.
We know Aptos wants to move to the MBL's Gabilan Division. Makes sense. We know the Gabilan wants them.
I don't buy the fact that a league in San Jose is an option for the Mariners.
The rest of the SCCAL wants in with the Mission Trail Athletic League.
That's not a done deal.
The MTAL can accept or reject any of the five remaining teams, assuming Harbor does not shut down its program.
My hunch is the MTAL will accept all of them, perhaps even welcome St. Francis Catholic as well.
An equity league in the MTAL would help resolve some of the blowouts we have seen over the last five years, plus keep rivalries games in check, as they can become non-league games.
Plus it might make it more difficult for the MTAL to merge with the MBL for all sports, which is a proposal being put on the table for 2018.
Either way, the MTAL will have competitive balance in football.
