One of the oldest standing basketball tournaments in the state tips off Thursday with the 69th Carmel Classic.
Among the teams taking part in the tournament are Monterey, Marina and the host Padres.
Tournament champion Salinas won't be back to defend its title, having decided to play in the Scattini Tournament at Palma, which began on Wednesday.
Monterey is off to an impressive start behind three-year starter Kobe Ordonio, averaging 75 points a game while outscoring three teams by an average of 33 points.
The Padres (3-1) only loss on the season is to Monterey while Marina has already surpassed last year's entire win total.
