CIF State Northern California Division V semifinals
Tuesday's match
No. 3 Santa Catalina (27-0) at No. 2 Marin Academy, San Rafael (25-9), 7 p.m.
The Wildcats have been nearly unbeatable at home this season at 12-1, with the only setback coming from top seed and North Coast Section Division V champion Head-Royce.
Santa Catalina has put together one of the best runs in state history at 27-0, having swept its last 10 opponents.
With no common opponent, both teams will be making adjustments on the fly. It is safe to say both teams did not get here by accident.
The Cougars have one of the premier setters in the tournament in McKinley Fox, who uses her vision on the court to set up an attack that features Maria Santos and Saige Madden.
Santos erupted for 23 kills in the teams three-set sweep over Ripon in their Northern California DV opener.
The only blemish on Marin Academy's record in the month of November came in a five-set loss to Head-Royce. Three weeks earlier, it was swept by Head-Royce.
The Wildcats have a front row that features three players 5-feet-11 or taller, including 6-1 Livy Lee and 5-11 freshman Ramona Dewane.
While Olivia Satow has been a rock in the back row for Santa Catalina, the emergence of sophomore Kia Shoemaker at the net has given the team a presence in the middle on defense.
