Two defending Central Coast Section divisional champions will clash tonight with expectations that go beyond a section title.
The Chieftains defense will be tested out the gates, facing a Piedmont Hills squad that features guard Goose Persin, who dropped in over 15 points a game last year, hitting 118 3-point goals.
Last season the Pirates won the CCS Division I championship while Palma captured the Division IV crown, embarking on a postseason ride that took them to a State Division IV finals appearance.
The return of Gabilan Division Player of the Year Jamaree Bouyea has heightened expectations for the Chieftains.
Last winter the 6-foot-1 Bouyea averaged over 18 points a game for Palma, while finishing among the team leaders in assists and steals.
After a season opening loss last season to St. Francis, the Chieftains won 20 of their next 21 games, going undefeated in the Gabilan.
