MTAL cross country finals

For the first time since 1982, the Mission Trail Athletic League cross country finals will not be held at Toro Park, having been moved this fall to San Lorenzo Park in King City.
Pacific Grove will come into the girls meet undefeated this season behind seniors Anna Stefanou and Christina Hashimoto. Hashimoto was a freshmen on the Breakers last title team.
Behind freshmen Pascale Montgomery, Carmel could present the biggest challenge to Pacific Grove along with defending champion Greenfield, who just got Evelyn Meza back.
Depth will likely decide the outcome. In the last Center Meet, the Breakers No. 5 runner finished 40 seconds in front of Carmel's No. 5 runner in a 53-55 win.
There's no question who the favorite individually is in the boys race as defending champion Roman Munoz of King City has been the class of the league all season.
As for the team champion, Greenfield, Pacific Grove, Carmel and King City will all be in the mix.
While Greenfield didn't have anyone in the top five at the last Center Meet, it had three in the next five, and all five runners in the top 15, anchored by distance ace Luis Meza.
Pacific Grove's strength is at the top where Henry Loh and Jake Alt have been among the top five all season, along with Carmel's Emerson Hardy.
The Bruins depth gives them an edge in a meet where 13 teams help spread the points based on their finishes.
In the Coastal Athletic League portion of the finals, Pacific Collegiate is in a class by itself in the girls division while York is the favorite in the boys.
