Castilleja-Notre Dame volleyball

Central Coast Section Division V
Wednesday's game
No. 6 Castilleja (20-13) vs. No. 2 Notre Dame (19-11) at Thomas More High, 5:30 p.m.
The reigning two-time CCS Division V champion Spirts are a different team without Julia Scattini.
Learning to play without the outside hitter took some time. And while you can not replace one of the top players in the county, Notre Dame has recovered in time for a postseason run.
We saw it in the teams final two regular season games, in which it took Gabilan Division runner-up Salinas to five sets, and grabbed a set from Monte Vista, who is still alive in Division IV.
Setter Spencer Hagenbuch has been a rock for the Spirits, having recorded over 700 assists this year, feeding the ball to a trio that includes Keona Stopper, Adeline Laughton and Mikeila Banda.
Banda, a defensive specialist when the season began, has compiled 120 kills to go along with her nearly 300 digs.
Notre Dame has served well this year with over 100 aces, including a team high 42 from Hagenbuch and 33 from Katie DeSerpa.
Castilleja, who finished third in the West Bay Skyline Division, opened the tournament by sweeping St. Francis Catholic of Watsonville.
