Gonzales-Marina football

Friday's game
Gonzales (0-7) vs. Marina (1-6) at MPC, 7:30 p.m.
After dropping their last two games last fall cost the Spartans a playoff spot, expectations this season were to make amends.
Instead, Gonzales has dropped nine straight dating back to last year, allowing 48 points a game after last weeks 51-0 setback to Stevenson.
The Mariners have been beset with injuries all season, losing their best defensive player and starting quarterback.
In fact, both teams -- whose roster numbers are two of the smallest in the MTAL -- have used at least three different quarterbacks this season because of injuries.
Receiver-turned-quarterback Jose Espinosa has thrown for over 800 yards and rushed for nearly 400 in the Spartans last five games, accounting for nine touchdowns.
Since a Week 2 win, Marina's defense is allowing 52 points a game, having been outscored 224-24 in the first half.
While this has the makings of a shootout on a fast MPC turf, both teams have struggled offensively in taking care of the ball.
