Catalina-Carmel volleyball

One team stands in the path of perfection in the regular season for the Cougars
It just happens to be Carmel, the last program to beat them in a regular season match last season.
Already assured no worse than a share of the Mission Trail Athletic League title, Santa Catalina will look to make history tonight when it travels to face the Padres.
 At stake?
How about the first program in Monterey County to post an undefeated regular season - tournaments included.
The Cougars, who will likely be the top seed in the Central Coast Section Division V playoffs, are 21-0 this fall, having gone to five sets just twice.
Carmel is one of four teams to take a set off the Cougars, who have swept 17 matches this fall in a  record breaking season.
No one has been more valuable for Santa Catalina than 6-foot junior setter McKinley Fox, who has enabled Maria Santos and Saige Madden to put up big numbers at the net.
Olivia Satow has been the catalyst in the back row on defense for the Cougars, and among the teams top servers along with Fox.
Carmel, who played its first 20 matches on the road while its gym was renovated, is undefeated since returning home behind Megan Gonzalez and her 315 assists and 225 kills.
The Padres are a balanced offense with Soana Laulotu and Hana Nystrom both approaching 200 kills this season. Madi Lombardi is the glue in the back row with 275 digs.
Carmel is a dangerous team at the serving line as Gonzalez and Nystrom each have 50 plus service aces.
