North Salinas-Monte Vista football

Friday's game
North Salinas (2-2) at Monte Vista (4-0), 7:30 p.m.
Wasn't graduation suppose to have gutted the Mustangs following a 10-win season?
Obviously, the cupboard wasn't bare as Monte Vista is off to its second straight 4-0 start, outscoring teams 44-0 in the second quarter and 46-6 in the third quarter.
Of the 41 points the Mustangs have allowed this year, 28 have come in the fourth quarter when they have built an 18 point or larger lead.
Quarterback David Daich, who threw just 13 passes last year for Monte Vista, completed that many in Week 2. He has thrown for nearly 600 yards and six touchdowns this fall.
Bumped to the Gabilan Division after winning the Pacific Division last fall, the Vikings are exactly where they've been the last two years, sitting at 2-2 after four games.
North Salinas has looked poised in its two wins, averaging 38 points a game. But in its two losses, it has been outscored 78-21.
Tim Burkhardt has thrown for 666 yards and six touchdowns for the Vikings, while leading the team in rushing with 235 yards and a touchdown.
Damon Diaz has been one of Burkhardt's primary targets with 15 catches for 338 yards and three touchdowns, while Richard Reyes has 13 receptions.
The last time these teams faced each other was in 2012 with Monte Vista prevailing 55-14.
