MPC-Foothill football

Saturday's game
Monterey Peninsula (1-0) at Foothill (0-1), 7 p.m.
A concern for the Lobos is the availability of quarterback Kody Steele, who left the game at halftime last week with an injury and didn't return.
Two different quarterbacks played in the second half of a 25-0 win over Yuba, with Davonta Blake completing all three of his attempts, including a touchdown pass.
Defense was regarded as the strength of  MPC and that was exhibited in the opener as it posted its first shutout in 42 games, a stretch that dates back to 2011.
Sophomore Andrew Jakubowsky, who shared the team lead in tackles last year, compiled 11 along with a interception for the Lobos.
Freshman Nathanael Heaukulani had a nice debut for MPC, returning an interception 100 yards for a touchdown.
Offensively, Deryan Sanders caught nine passes for 103 yards and a touchdown, and made his one pass count with a touchdown pass.
Having dropped 11 consecutive games, Foothill actually held a 10-2 lead over Hartnell before being outscored 28-0.
The Lobos have to keep an eye on Foothill receiver Ken Cross, who caught 10 passes for 135 yards, including a touchdown.
The Owls did turn the ball over three times last week and averaged less than a yard per carry on 26 attempts on the ground.
