Monterey-Monte Vista football

Friday's game
Monterey (0-2) at Monte Vista (2-0), 7:30 p.m.
Little has gone right for the Toreadores in their first two games, having been outscored 98-21, with all of their points coming in the fourth quarter.
Mental breakdowns are grounding an offense that at times shows flashes of its potential, such as last week when sophomore Evans Charles connected with Marcus Dorn Jr. on a touchdown pass.
First half mistakes have crippled Monterey, who has been outscored 77-0 in the first 24 minutes of the game.
Monte Vista has not looked like a program in a rebuilding mood, as its defense went seven quarters before giving up its first points last week.
Quarterback Devon Daich threw for nearly 300 yards last week, averaging 17.5 yards a completion for the Mustangs, who beat Monterey 42-7 last year when both were in the Gabilan Division.
It might not be long before Monterey coach Dan Brown plucks a few players from his junior varsity squad, which has dominated its first two opponents.
