Marina-Pacific Grove football

Friday's game
Marina (1-2) at Pacific Grove (1-2), 7:30 p.m.
The two-time defending Mission Trail Athletic League champion Breakers had an extra week with the bye to solve their defensive issues, which have seen them give up 123 points in three games.
Having Noah Cryns back will be a huge lift for both sides of the ball. Having missed the last game with an illness, the quarterback has either thrown or rushed for nearly 500 yards in two games.
Marina, which has never beaten Pacific Grove, has had defensive concerns as well, allowing 40 or more points twice this year.
With 52 of its 66 points coming in the second half, the Mariners have dug themselves deep holes in the first half, having been outscored 62-14 -- with the defense accounting for one of those scores.
While Cryns is a concern for Marina, MTAL 100 meter champion Nick Coppla is averaging nearly 17 yards a catch and 8.8 yards each time he runs with the ball.
Having quarterback Will Leander back at close to full strength will improve the Mariners running and passing attack.
