Josh Pompan

Former Central Coast Section singles tennis champion Josh Pompan has been named a team captain this coming season for the University of Penn men’s tennis team.

Pompan, a York School graduate, won nine matches last year shuffling between Penn’s No. 2 and No. 3 singles position, including a match in which he fought off the flu to come back from a 5-1 deficit in the final set to win and help Penn beat Brown.

The junior also advanced last spring to the Round of 16 at the ITA Northwest Regional Championship, and won the doubles flight with teammate Ismael Lahlou at the Wake Forest Invitational.

As a freshman two years ago, Pompan led Penn in wins with 24, including a streak of 10 straight. He also helped Penn to its highest ITA rating in school history at 39.
