Gilroy-Alisal football

Friday's game
Gilroy (2-2) at Alisal (0-4), 7:30 p.m.
Certainly this wasn't the start first year coach Cesar Chaidez envisioned for Alisal, not after it closed last season with two straight wins to finish 5-5.
All that momentum, not to mention the excitement established with the hiring of Chaidez has been shaken a bit with the slow start.
Then again, the last time Alisal started a season with four straight losses, it went on to win its first and only league title.
Chaidez has talked about changing the culture all season at Alisal. Part of that is not letting things linger, such as failing to hold a late fourth quarter lead two weeks ago.
Gilroy is going to put some points on the scoreboard, averaging 38 points a game this season, 52 points a game in its two wins.
Sophomore Joseph Barnes has rushed for 178 and 216 yards in two games this season, and has 561 yards and eight touchdowns on the year.
Prior to being held in check last week, teammate Dylan Holler had three straight games with over 100 yards rushing, including a 236 yard effort against Sobrato.
Alisal has struggled in defending the run, having given up over 100 yards to a running back in its last three games.
