Aptos-Salinas football

Thursday's game
Aptos (0-0) at Salinas (0-0), 7:30 p.m.
Owners of three straight Central Coast Section divisional titles, the Mariners are 30-3 over the last three seasons against teams in the CCS, including two season opening wins over Salinas.
Quarterback Gavin Glaum threw for nearly 1,600 yards last fall for Aptos while Jack Wolf lead the team in rushing with just under 800 yards. Danner Pardue is dangerous in the open field.
In fact, three running backs that ran on the schools 400 relay team last spring will take turns carrying the ball for Aptos, who closed last season with eight straight wins.
Salinas stumbled down the stretch last year, dropping three of its final four games, including a pair of four-point losses to Monte Vista and Palo Alto.
The Cowboys lost a record setting quarterback to graduation, along with their top two receivers. As of Monday, a decision on a starting quarterback had not been made publicly.
There are no shortage of targets for Salinas with the return of receivers Jabari Smith and Cooper Smith. Rediscovering the ground game can't fall on the quarterback again this fall.
Salinas outscored opponents 108-48 in the second quarter last year while the Mariners produced 109 points in the second quarter.
Both teams like to run up-tempo attacks, meaning both defenses will be tested. In the last two non-league battles, Aptos has scored late in the fourth quarter to pull out both games.
