Used as both a running back and receiver last fall in Gonzales' resurgence, Mendoza caught 13 passes for nearly 200 yards and two touchdowns as a secondary receiver.
The incoming senior could see more time in the backfield this fall for the Spartans, who lost their top three rushers for graduation. Mendoza also played significantly as a defensive back.
