Monica Abbott

A month after signing a record $1 million contract with the Houston-based Scrap Yard Dawgs of the National Pro Fastpitch League, Monica Abbott is 4-1 with a 1.30 earned run average.

Abbott, who led North Salinas to three Central Coast Section titles and won an Olympic silver medal in 2008, has won her last four starts for the Scrap Yard Dawgs.
In 32 2/3 innings, the 6-foot-3 Abbott has recorded 40 strikeouts. The left-handed hurler has allowed just two runs in her last 25 2/3 innings.
Abbott, a four-time All-American at Tennessee, is the NCAA all-time leader in strikeouts and wins. She has also pitched professionally in Japan for the last seven years.
