The two teams will meet today in a rematch of last year's league tournament title game, in which the Padres prevailed 17-5.
Ranked No. 2 in the Central Coast Section behind St. Ignatius, Carmel is 16-1 this year, with their only loss coming from Sacred Heart Prep.
Both Scotts Valley and the Padres breezed through their respective leagues and first two tournament games to reach the finals.
Dillon Staples has carried the offense for Carmel with 53 goals. The return of Morgan Koucky, even at less than 100 percent, along with Karter Ruiz gives them three dynamic options.
The Padres defense will need to rise to the occasion against a Scotts Valley squad that has scored 28 goals in two postseason games.
All three Falcons losses this spring have come from teams outside the Central Coast Section. It has outscored opponents 102-12 in its last eight games.
