Spring dynasties

What constitutes a dynasty?
A series of league titles? A section championship or two? A state ranking?
Anyone of those three over time works for me.
With spring sports winding down, it's starting to look a lot like last season. And the year before that. And.....You get the point
Oh, we have a few surprises, such as Carmel's rise to the top in volleyball, King City's emergence as a contender in baseball and Alvarez's bid for a league softball title.
Yet, look around and it's the same programs in the same sports chasing league championships or bids for a section title.
San Benito is chasing a 10th league baseball title in 11 years. Carmel is the measuring stick in the MTAL, although it's feeling King City and Pacific Grove breathing down its neck.
Notre Dame and San Benito are locked in for another run at section softball divisional titles. The two teams have won a combined 25 CCS titles in the last 20 years.
Nothing has changed in golf as Palma and Stevenson are the class of the area and appear ticketed for extensive postseason runs. Same with Carmel in boys lacrosse and tennis.
Salinas is swimming laps around opponents in both divisions while Carmel is chasing supremacy in the MTAL. San Benito is in a league of its own in girls track.
Oh, there are streaks in jeopardy. Such as Santa Catalina's bid for a sixth straight MTAL softball title. Or Palma's attempt at a fifth straight league track title.
But they're in contention as the Cougars sit just a game behind Carmel, while Palma and San Benito appeared headed for another clash in the Gabilan Division track finals.
For some of these programs, it's about stability at the top. For others, the program sells itself with its rich tradition.
Don't get me wrong. The work is still being put it. This isn't by accident.
How long did it take King City and Santa Catalina to become dominate in the MTAL in track?  Or North Salinas in the Pacific Division in baseball.
Pride and tradition only go so far.
