Cal Poly, SLO local track connection

 Monterey grad James Welsh and King City product Jessica Davis are gearing up for the Big West track and field championships for Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
 Welsh, a state meet qualifier as a senior at Monterey in cross country and track, has run 14:55.53 in the 5,000 and 3:58.51 in the 1,500 for Cal Poly this spring.
 Davis has spent the spring preparing for the heptathlon, where she has a best of 4,376 points over the two-day, seven-event competition.
 Davis, who reached the state meet in the 100 hurdles and 300 low hurdles while attending King City, set five personal bests last year.
