Alvarez-Seaside softball

An argument can be made that the Spartans are the most improved team in the area since the start of the season.
One way to erase a gut-wrenching non-league start is to turn it up a level in league. Since a 1-4-1  beginning, Seaside has won three of its last four games.
All of a sudden it's in the conversation for title talk along with 3-1 Alvarez and defending champion Watsonville.
The Eagles opened the season with a school record seven straight wins and are five wins away from breaking the single season school record for wins.
Ironically both teams have league losses to unbeaten Watsonville.
Melissa Belnas has swung a hot bat for Alvarez, leading the team with 15 runs batted in. Aliyah Robles has hit a team high three homers while Giana Deleon has handcuffed opponents in the circle.
The return of five starters has enabled the Spartans to surge as seniors Malia Usrey and Marielle Tuazon have slapped the ball all over the field.
Stephanie Lizarbe and freshman Jordan Olivares have both homered for Seaside while four-year starting pitcher Kaitlyn Hernandez has been a mark of consistency.
