Central Coast Section Division I finals
Saturday's game
No. 3 North Salinas (23-3) vs. No. 1 Palo Alto (18-7), at Kaiser Arena, 2 p.m.
All the two-time defending Division I champions have done on this playoff run is end Homestead's 17-game winning streak and Silver Creek's 16-game run.
I'd say North Salinas is peaking at the right time, having rattled off 11 straight wins, 10 by 11 or more points.
Runner-ups in the De Anza Division, Palo Alto was impressive in a 40-point decision over Piedmont Hills in the semifinals while North Salinas coasted to a 52-34 win over No. 2 Silver Creek.
North Salinas and Palo Alto, who are both nicknamed the Vikings, have a history, having met in the 2014 semifinals with North Salinas prevailing 51-41.
Both teams play tenacious defense with North Salinas applying pressure on the ball for 32 minutes behind guards Jordyn Enos, Alissa Foster and Danae Snell.
North Salinas has held 18 teams under 40 points this year while Palo Alto has kept 15 teams under 40 points.
Enos, a four-year starter, is coming off a 14-point effort along with center Ashley Tennant. Foster has given North Salinas a threat on the perimeter.
Tennant and Sherise Robinson will be asked to contain Palo Alto's 6-foot-3 post Alexis Harris, who is averaging 11 points and eight rebounds a game.
Last year Palo Alto took part in the Open Division playoffs. Dating back to 2014, North Salinas has won eight straight CCS playoff games.
